Given that most cannot perform a decent number of repetitions of Standing Calf Raises with no weight, it's odd that so many only use a Standing Calf Raise Machine and proceed by performing a half-squat of sorts, rather than anything remotely related to a calf raise. Anyhow, whinge over - by reading this, you will not become that person! Instead, concentrate on form. Perform a calf raise slowly with control. The more advanced you become, the greater control you shall have, eventually, being able to perform a good-amount of repetitions without having to use your hands for balance.
The more advanced trainer may wish to try Standing Calf Raises with one-leg or holding dumbbells.
